Our First Family Holiday to Cornwall

Last week, we took our first real holiday as a family of 3. We’ve been on holiday to visit my parents but its not quite the same. I thoroughly recommend our whole trip and more detailed posts will follow over the next few weeks (of the Monkey Sanctuary and the Eden Project).

So where did we stay?

We stayed in a very cute cottage at Tregoad Park near Looe.


It was lovely, there was a dishwasher, microwave, 2 bedrooms, a pool and hot tub as well as a lovely countryside setting. We also requested a high chair and cot so we didn’t need to take them with us.

The property was really clean, recently decorated and had everything we needed, from cutlery and nice bedding, to frying pans and grill pans as well as egg cups and various Pyrex and oven dishes – everything needed to be a home from home. There was also a tv and dvd player. Unfortunately although there was wifi on the site, it was very limited and didn’t really work, we didn’t manage to connect to it at all.

As the living room, dining room and kitchen were open plan we created a little ?H safe area using the sofas and a chair (which conveniently had lots of rungs so she couldn’t crawl through it!). We also put a duvet on the floor to make it a bit softer, and she spent lots of time playing and watching In The Night Garden before bed.?

We also chose this cottage as it had an indoor pool which would be fab if the weather was not so great and also perfect for wee H. H has had swimming lessons since she was 10 weeks and loves the water, so a pool was essential.

What did we do?

We visited The Monkey Sanctuary and Eden Project, as well as some Cornish towns.

• Seaton – beach

 

A bit more about our trip:

We knew going on holiday in October was risky, lets face it the weather can do anything, most likely rain. We were lucky, it didn’t really, and only rained heavily on the last morning as we (hubby) packed up the car. The weather did get cooler and duller throughout the week, but we still got out and had a fun time seeing beaches, harbours and going swimming. Lets face it, holidaying in the UK means being prepared for anything and everything, rain, wind, sun.

The Eden Project is an absolute favourite of our week. The Rainforest Biome was fascinating, so many plants, and so much information. From banana trees to palms, and from South America to the Maldives, the plants were so diverse. The temperature was also very accurate for that region, it was very humid at the highest point in the dome, but, like everything they had included a ‘Cool Room’ where you could shelter from the humidity and heat. We found this invaluable given we had a 10 month old in a pushchair and it was actually October outside! The Rainforest Biome also had a walk up to the Lookout across the whole dome. From here you could look down from the centre taking in the whole dome. Unfortunately little ones who can’t walk can’t go up, and slings aren’t allowed either. This is entirely due to safety, and I completely understand that as the stairs are open metal and rock as you walk up them, this is a very valid rule. We were quite happy doing a tag team, with me going up first, and hubby after.

We also discovered an absolute gem, potentially every parent’s dream, a soft play area! If you’re unsure why this would be a dream, baby had been sat in the car, pushchair and a high chair over lunch, followed by some time in the sling as she was getting grumpy… this was really far too much time with no crawling or walking for an active little monster. I think the soft play saved us as we discovered it at just the right time, 4pm, just as H was getting rather grumpy of being in the pushchair and latterly the sling. Luckily as we were visiting before the October half term holiday, everywhere was quiet, so H had the soft play to herself for some of the time. It’s definitely worth a visit if you have little ones (before they get grumpy).

We of course had the obligatory Cornish Pasty, fresh fish and chips, Cream Tea and fudge!
