*** Jamie’s Italian Cheltenham, and the Jamie Oliver restaurant chain have now closed – The Old Court House is now open here ***
Yesterday, hubby, H and I dropped into our local Jamie’s Italian to try their new Super Lunch Menu. As hubby was working and and H is in a routine (she MUST watch In The Night Garden and have a little play before she goes to bed around 7.30), we popped in for an early dinner at 5pm. So here is a review of our Super Lunch at Jamie’s Italian in Cheltenham…
I will say straight off that the food we had would be perfect for any time of day – lunch or dinner!
Arriving…
We received a lovely welcome and our pushchair was kindly put behind the reception so we didn’t need to bother with it during our food.
We had a nice corner table which had loads of room for a (well designed and clean) high-chair. Parents, high-chair’s are a big deal, aren’t they!! We then chose from the Super Lunch menu,?which is a terrific deal comprising of two courses for ?10.95 or three courses for ?12.95. It’s available from 12-6pm Monday to Friday and so is great for lunch, or an early dinner (fab for baby and toddler parents!). Oh, and because it says lunch don’t worry, believe me, the portions aren’t smaller because it’s lunch!
You can tell Jamie’s is a family friendly restaurant as the lovely waitress brought H a children’s pack which had word-searches, colouring and crayons.
The Menu
So what did we eat? Well lets just say the Super Lunch menu makes it difficult, I was SO torn between the chicken and the veggie tagliatelle bolognese. I’m not veggie, but just fancied something a bit different. Anyway, I chose Fritto Misto?and the veggie bogolnese, hubby chose the pate bruschetta and we chose the ‘secret seven’ pasta for H.
The Super Lunch menu?(check out the menu?here):
The kids menu is ?6.95 and includes a fruit drink, with a dessert costing ?1.25.
The Starters
We didn’t have to wait long until our starters arrived, H was happily playing and colouring, and we’d only had to feed her one bread-stick. Here are our starters…
They really were yummy! I love squid?and would happily eat a full plate of it… so I would have been even happier if there was less white fish in my dish, but believe me it was DELICIOUS. Hubby had the pate bruschetta which he really enjoyed and polished off in record time.
We were relived that H’s meal was brought out with our starters, so we were able to keep her occupied and munching while we enjoyed ours too.
Children’s Meal
This was H’s meal:
The waitress let us know as she placed H’s meal down that it was hot. So we cooled it down before letting her eat any and also popped her meal into a separate bowl so if she threw a strop the whole bowl wouldn’t end up on the floor! She loves pasta, so this dish with seven types of veg hidden in the pasta sauce was perfect. Her pasta also came with a little pot of veggies including lettuce, carrots, grapes, tomatoes.
H’s food was yummy, both hubby and I tried it too.
Our Main Courses
I had chosen the Veggie Tagliatelle, which was really delicious, and hubby chose the Tagliatelle Bolognese which he demolished in record time. Here are some pictures:
Pudding time!!
Well you can’t go to Jamie’s without having dessert, can you? I chose the Epic Brownie, hubby the Italian Apple and Blackberry Pavlova and we chose the fruit from the kids menu for H.
While we waited, H from played peekaboo around the high-chair, and ran from mummy to daddy. Shortly later, the desserts arrived and we popped H into her high-chair and she immediately started destroying her lovely wooden platter of fruit, so sorry this is the only picture I got!
Here are our desserts:
Don’t you agree they just look incredibly scrumptious? I completely and utterly recommend by brownie, it was lovely and chocolatey, just the right size, just the right amount of ice cream and delicious chocolatey sauce. I pretty much always choose the chocolate option when I’m out – chocolate fudge cake, chocolate brownie, chocolate ice-cream… and this has to be one of the best proportioned deserts I’ve tasted.
Hubby had the pavolva, and he really enjoyed it, he said ” it was awesome and he’d have more please!” actually he’s said it since too!
The restaurant
The Cheltenham restaurant is located in the old County Court, it’s a fabulous old building, and the toilets being located in the old cells… You walk along a cobbled corridor, with dimmer than normal lighting and displays showing it’s history.
I would like to caveat my photos here, as the lighting inside the restaurant isn’t bright, streaming light because this is an old building and there aren’t many windows! … Sorry they’re not as good as I’d like!
Our overall experience of the Super Lunch at Jamie’s Italian?
We’ve visited Jamie’s several times in the past, in fact my last glass of wine before finding out I was pregnant was at Jamies. Every time we’ve visited we’ve had fantastic service, a lovely experience and a really enjoyed it. This time was no exception and I really recommend the new Super Lunch menu if you do pop in.
Verdict: 100% recommended (both Jamie’s Italian, and, the Super Lunch Menu)

February 23, 2016 at 1:14 pmLooks and sounds amazing. I love it when restaurants think about the kids too, so nice they give a colouring pack and the food looks brilliant. We’ve never been to a Jamie’s Italian restaurant before, certainly looks like one to try in the future.

I love the look of H’s fruit platter, yummy, I’m also very impressed you managed to get a photo of it all before it was devoured! #TheBabyFormula

February 29, 2016 at 8:55 pmI must admit I do like Jamies our closest is in Brighton I keep hoping they may come to Horsham! They are great with kids and its good that the highchairs are clean – so many places can’t get the basics right. The lunch deal sounds like a really bargain and the fact it goes onto 6pm is great. Thank you for joining us at #BloggerClubUK hope to see you again this week x
