As many reading will know, we moved house recently and have been doing bits and pieces to it since. We’re very luckily to have a playroom beside the kitchen and want it to be a safe fun place for baby H.
We put a lot of thought into the playroom because, let’s face it…
(Playroom + Baby safety) x lots of fun decorations = Happy Mummy + Happy Baby
We deliberated over the colour we wanted. Something, fairly light, greyish, definitely not magnolia! So after a few tester posts, we have painted H’s playroom this colour, Putty:
Homebase Home of Colour Putty (?14.99 for 2.5l). It’s exactly what we wanted, exactly what was in my head. Win!
We’ve added coving from Wickes 127mm coving (?21.49 for a pack of 5). Hubby also recommends using a coving mitre box (Coveasy – The foolproof coving mitre box.) which makes cutting the coving a doddle.
We also bought a radiator cover to protect H’s little hands from the heat from Homebase.
We haven’t added curtains or blinds yet, but as there is a door and window together we’re going round in circles trying to decide. I think blinds will have a nice clean look (with one blind for the window and a really long one for the door). But I so love curtains like these:
- Catherine Lansfield Owl Curtains – Pink (Amazon)
- Fairy Castle Curtains (?24.99 from Amazon)
- Princess Castle with Tie Backs (?7.97 from Amazon)
We want it to be a fun room, so stickers like these are a must:
- Rainbow Fox? Jungle Forest Zoo Animal World Monkey Playing on Trees Wall Decal Sticker For Nursery
- Sleeping Monkey On Pink Flower Tree Wall Sticker For Children Bedroom Baby Nursery
- Large Side Wall Tree Branch Birds Art Vinyl Wall Transfer Sticker – HIGH QUALITY (White)
- Decalshut Vinyl Wall Decal Birch Tree Wall stickers for Nursery Wall decal Stickers Living Room Decor
I also love these rugs from Next and Tesco…
But, what about those finishing touches and fun for H… Playtents, Pom poms and a fab light from IKEA.
- Disney Primcess Ugo Tent – Debenhams ?30.00
- Pink Princess Castle Play Tent – Amazon ?14.99
- Paper Pom Poms – Notonthehighstreet.com
- SKOJIG Yellow Cloud Ceiling Light – IKEA ?14
I really love the idea of fairy lights and pom-poms, because who didn’t love making them as a kid?
What do you think?
I took some of my inspiration for the playroom from Pinterest… Check out my playroom Pinterest board here.

November 14, 2015 at 8:18 pmLovely ideas – We recently converted our grown up dining room into more of a playroom and filled it up with loads of bright colours and toys. The girls love it. We’ll have a dining room again…one day! Love the stickers, we have something similar in dangermouses bedroom from Etsy. Gorgeous – I love anything featuring trees and birds! x #coolmumclub Thanks for linking in…

November 15, 2015 at 8:58 pmLove the stickers! We’ve had some flower stickers in the nursery for the last 3 years but they’re a bit worse for wear now. I was just going to replace them with something similar but I’ve fallen in love with those Rainbow Fox ones!

November 18, 2015 at 2:05 pmGreat ideas and I love that Putty colour! I wish we had room for SB to have a playroom – as it is we’ve turned her bedroom into as much of a playroom as we can in a rented house with stickers on the wardrobes and bunting and lovely stuff. December 26, 2015 at 5:15 pmWe’ve lucky enough to have a playroom too. Still need to get a blind (as the one that was there when we moved in fell down!) but we kept things simple. The walls were plain anyway and because kids toys are so multi coloured we’ve bought white IKEA Kallax unit (a must in a playroom!) and multi coloured frames for the walls to display his artwork (and a couple currently show his letter from Santa and a pic of him with Santa.
